The Muslim Communist mayor of London urged Starmer to recognize Palestine.
Sadiq Khan, mayor of the city of London, demanded that the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom recognize Palestine as a state
The communist mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has urged the United Kingdom government to immediately recognize the Palestinian State amid the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the terrorist group Hamás affecting Gaza.
In a message posted on X (formerly Twitter), Khan described the images coming from Gaza as "absolutely heartbreaking" and demanded that the United Kingdom recognize Palestine as a sovereign state immediately.
His call has caused controversy for omitting Hamás's role in the conflict and for presenting a unilateral view that places exclusive responsibility on Israel, without acknowledging that the true cause of the humanitarian tragedy taking place in Gaza.

Khan breaks with Starmer
Khan's appeal also represents a new break with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and the leadership of the Labour Party.
In the past, the current mayor has distanced himself from the official line, such as when he supported rebellious Labour MPs who forced the government to abandon reforms on disability issues.
The far-left leader's position is interpreted by some as an attempt to gain political visibility, taking advantage of the likelihood that he will not seek a fourth term as mayor of London.
Meanwhile, the British government has reiterated that it supports the creation of a Palestinian State as part of a negotiated two-state solution, but that recognition must take place at the appropriate time and in coordination with international allies.

The situation in Gaza worsens
Meanwhile, more than 100 humanitarian organizations have warned about a severe food crisis in Gaza caused by the terrorists who subjugate the Gazan population.
The Israeli government has stated that it continues to allow the entry of essential supplies, accusing Hamás of seizing that aid and hindering its distribution, actions that have also been denounced by international agencies in the past.
The terrorist movement has been accused of diverting resources and using humanitarian routes for military purposes, endangering both humanitarian workers and civilians themselves.
