Confirmed: there will be a holiday on July 4, and a group of Argentinians will have a long 'weekend'.

The break will only be for some, while at the national level there are still three long weekends left in 2025

July begins with an unexpected break for part of the Argentine population. Friday, July 4 has been declared a holiday for a specific sector, which creates a new long weekend, although it is not a nationwide date.

This break allows a small group to shorten the workweek and enjoy three consecutive days of rest, ideal for family activities, cultural events, or simply taking a break in the middle of the year.

Why is it a holiday in Urdampilleta

The town of Urdampilleta, in Buenos Aires province, has a holiday on Friday, July 4 for the anniversary of its founding, which allows its residents to enjoy an exclusive long weekend.

This non-working day doesn't apply nationwide, but it does offer a break for those who live in this community of the Bolívar district. The celebration includes cultural activities and a folk music gathering with free admission.

Who is covered by this July 4 holiday

The July 4 break commemorates 112 years since the official founding of Urdampilleta, which dates back to July 4, 1913. However, its origin begins in September 1904 with the opening of the Torrecita train station, a milestone that led to the town's growth.

Urdampilleta is located 375 kilometers (233 miles) from the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires and is part of the Bolívar district, which has more than 34,000 inhabitants. To celebrate the date, a folk music gathering is organized at the Sociedad Española starting at 8:30 p.m., in addition to artistic and cultural events throughout the day.

How many long weekends remain in 2025

Although this holiday is only for one town, there are still three long weekends left across the country before the end of the year. These are key opportunities to plan trips, rest, or family activities:

  • From Friday, August 15 to Sunday, August 17: Anniversary of General San Martín's Passing to Immortality.
  • From Friday, November 21 to Monday, November 24: National Sovereignty Day.
  • From Saturday, December 6 to Monday, December 8: Immaculate Conception of Mary Day.

With this outlook, there are three national long weekends left in 2025, in addition to the local holidays celebrated in different cities across the country.
