Córdoba joins the record national expansion of sunflower for 2025/2026
Sowing will increase by 18% year-on-year across the country, and Córdoba will expand its historical contribution
The 2025/2026 national sunflower campaign began with a projection of 2.6 million hectares, according to the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange. If achieved, it will mark an 18% year-on-year increase and 30% more than the average of the last five campaigns. Córdoba, together with San Luis, plans to increase its participation thanks to favorable water conditions.
Current work is concentrated in the northeast of the agricultural area, but central provinces such as Córdoba are showing an encouraging start. Unlike previous cycles, soil profiles are well supplied with moisture. This will allow the recovery of hectares lost in previous campaigns and enable planting within the optimal window.
The rebound is explained by attractive international prices and sustained external demand. The positive climate context also drives planting intentions in regions that have historically contributed less to the national total.

Firm prices and regional potential
In NEA and the center-north of Santa Fe, planting is increasing after good yields, and Córdoba doesn't want to be left behind. In northern and eastern departments of the province, producers plan to expand the planted area. The experience of the previous cycle, with good results despite lower moisture, reinforces expectations.
Sunflower in Córdoba showed resistance to drought and now relies on a better water supply. This could increase its relative weight within national production. The goal is to take advantage of the moment to consolidate a stronger regional hub.

Record exports drive planting
So far, in 2025, sunflower oil is averaging a value 25% higher than in 2024, exceeding US$1,000 per ton. Lower production in Ukraine has opened space for Argentina to gain market share.
The Rosario Board of Trade estimates that the export value so far this year is 35% higher than in 2024. FOB oil alone caused more than US$980 million in seven months, 42% more than last year.
With good prices, strong demand, and record industrial output, the sector faces a historic opportunity. Córdoba will seek to capitalize on this scenario to expand its role in the national sunflower chain.
