
Córdoba: 50% of a Brangus bull was sold for 272 million pesos (599,657 pounds)
The animal, named 'Mafioso,' comes from Cabaña El Porvenir, owned by Walter Orodá, in northern Córdoba
On a day that will be recorded in the livestock history of the region, the red Brangus bull "Mafioso" reached an unprecedented price at the Rural Exhibition of Jesús María, Córdoba.
The bidding, intense and fiercely contested among several interested parties, ended when the auctioneer brought down the gavel at 272 million pesos (599,657 pounds) for 50% of the specimen, establishing a theoretical total value of 544 million pesos (1,199,314 pounds).

The animal, belonging to El Porvenir ranch of Walter Orodá and his family, was acquired by a pool made up of six ranches.
The amount is equivalent to about 200 thousand dollars and sets the highest nominal price ever recorded in the history of the local exhibition.
Mafioso, champion in Palermo
"Mafioso" had recently returned to northern Córdoba after being named Reserve Grand Champion Brangus Bull at the latest Palermo Rural Exhibition, one of the breed's highest honors.
El Porvenir, the undisputed leader in Brangus breeding, has accumulated a decade in a row of receiving the Brangus Merit Award from the Breeders Association.
In this auction, the second highest price went to another bull, which was sold for 60 million pesos (132,110 pounds).
The auction, which opened the 11th Ranch Auction, not only broke economic records, but also consolidated El Porvenir as a historic benchmark in Argentine cattle genetics.
