In Marull, within the San Justo department, the Martín family promoted a productive change that strengthened their dairy farm and turned it into a pioneering breeding facility. The project began in 2006, when they decided to incorporate the Montbéliarde breed to improve efficiency and reduce health issues in a sector affected by rising costs. The initiative emerged after evaluating systems at fairs, regional dairies, and technical visits abroad, where they confirmed concrete advantages of European genetics.
La Clide moved forward with a process of genetic absorption on its Holstein herd, since restrictions prevented importing embryos from France. That path required time, but allowed them to consolidate seven generations with pedigree, adding productive strength and stability in reproductive indexes. The current herd consists of about 500 head with 150 cows in milk, integrating an intensive model focused on welfare, health, and efficiency.

The first results became visible during rearing, where the males showed meat aptitude and high vitality, which opened up an additional economic opportunity. These advantages made it possible to maintain margins in a context where tax pressure, inflation, and lack of predictability affect dairy activity. The experience was also shared at exhibitions and workshops, generating greater interest in a breed historically little known in the country.

Performance, health, and productive efficiency
The Montbéliarde is characterized by strong bone structure, good locomotion, and low incidence of mastitis, attributes that reduce veterinary costs and unproductive time. At La Clide, they observed superior tolerance to milking, hardiness, and stability, qualities that sustain volumes of 30 to 40 liters (8 to 11 gallons) per day depending on management and feeding. These parameters are key for the cheese industry, which demands useful solids and regularity in production.
The producer adjusted waiting and pregnancy times to achieve 300-day lactations and improve profitability per liter, a strategic decision in regional economies with tight margins. They also incorporated additional protein supplementation, necessary for the breed to express its potential without causing fattening or losses due to acidosis. This management allowed them to consolidate genetics that combine productivity, health, and adaptability in the Córdoba dairy basin.
