The mayor of Oncativo, in Córdoba, Nicolás Filoni, was accused by a councilwoman and a member of the Audit Court of having increased his salary by 580%.
The official, who belongs to Juntos por el Cambio, was accused by councilwoman Marina Prenna and auditor Verónica Martinángelo, from Hacemos Unidos por Córdoba, of having raised his salary in an exorbitant manner.
The amount went from 707,000 pesos in December 2023 (1,559 pounds) to about 4,800,000 pesos (10,591 pounds) in less than two years.
"The data is official. The mayor himself published it. At that time, the mayor committed to publishing his salary every month so that the citizens of Oncativo would know what he earns," Martinángelo stated.
Mayor Filoni replied: "It is a complete farce, a lie. It's not that I increased my own salary, it was something approved by the City Council. By all the blocs."
"Meanwhile, I'm an accountant and the comparison is completely wrong because it compares a salary from the first days of December, the net, with that of September of this year, but the gross salary. They're comparing apples to oranges," he added.
Oncativo is a locality located about 135 kilometers (84 miles) east of Córdoba Capital.
