Córdoba: three minors with prior records set a police officer’s car on fire

Three 15-year-old teenagers were arrested in Córdoba after setting a police officer's car on fire with a Molotov cocktail. The incident occurred Wednesday night in the Müller neighborhood, just meters from Police Station 32, where the victim was on duty. The officer suffered first-degree burns on his arms and legs while trying to extinguish the fire on his own.

Violent attack with Molotov cocktail

According to police sources, the strikers threw a glass bottle filled with fuel, which caused rapid combustion. The beer-type bottle was seized at the scene as evidence by Judicial Police experts. The car was practically destroyed by the fire before it could be extinguished by the officers.

Two of the detainees already had criminal records for robbing app drivers in the San Vicente neighborhood. After the attack, they fled on foot but were located a few blocks away by police officers patrolling the area. The three minors were placed at the disposal of the juvenile justice system on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated damage.

Concern over repeat offenses among minors

One of the teenagers is known at local police stations for multiple repeated criminal acts. The case once again raises debate about the effectiveness of the state protection system and the control over minors with criminal records. Judicial authorities do not rule out the possibility of charging extremely serious crimes despite the age of those involved.

The injured officer was taken to the Burn Institute, where he remains hospitalized under observation for his injuries. Authorities reported that his life is not in danger, although he is still recovering from burns on his limbs. Meanwhile, investigators are looking into whether the strikers acted with premeditation or were motivated by reprisals against the force.
