The new project will transform the waste treatment system and benefit eight towns in the northeastern part of the province
The Government of Córdoba, through the Ministry of Environment and Circular Economy, is making progress in launching the Regional Plant of the Northeast Entity in Porteña. The initiative is part of the provincial plan for integrated management of urban solid waste, which aims to eliminate open-air dumps. The total investment amounts to $901,990,755, allocated to modernize the system and promote a circular economy model.
The new complex replaces the encapsulation system with a sanitary landfill equipped with state-of-the-art technology. The project included earthworks for a pit measuring 110 m (360.9 feet) long, 60 m (196.9 feet) wide, and 3 meters (9.8 feet) deep, waterproofed with a 1500-micron geomembrane. Heavy machinery and equipment for sorting and recycling were also acquired.
The Environmental Fund financed the purchase of a bulldozer, a weighing scale, and a compactor truck, which are essential elements for the operation of the site. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Environment carried out the remediation of dumps in Porteña, Morteros, Brinkmann, La Paquita, and Altos de Chipión. These actions are intended to improve local management and the sanitary conditions of the entire region.

Contributions to municipalities in the San Justo department
The Province distributed contributions in two stages to strengthen waste management and the work of the municipalities in the San Justo department. In the first stage, $242.6 million was allocated for the purchase of wood chippers, presses, membranes, infrastructure, and equipment. The funds benefited Altos de Chipión, Freyre, El Fortín, Alicia, Tránsito, La Francia, and the Northeast Entity.
In the second stage, the investment was $538.2 million, and equipment was delivered to Porteña, Morteros, Seeber, Las Varas, Miramar de Ansenuza, and Marull. In addition, the municipality of Morteros received a hydraulic press valued at $12.5 million. These actions strengthen the regional infrastructure and optimize waste treatment.
On September 23, the bulldozer acquired by the Environmental Fund was delivered, and at the beginning of October, staff training began. In this stage, workers were trained in the operation of the new equipment and compaction tasks. Currently, the sanitary landfill is already in gradual operation, receiving waste from the localities that make up the Northeast Entity.
