The execution of the new Gastronomic Terrace in the historic Próspero Molina Square unleashed a strong controversy in the city of Cosquín. The project requires an expenditure of more than 250 million pesos that is financed entirely with resources from the municipal treasury. The project seeks to renew the infrastructure of the grounds of the National Folklore Festival, although the opposition questions the priority.
Opposition council members harshly criticized the decision of the Executive, alleging that the city has other operational urgencies. The councilors stated that there are serious problems with the water supply and broken streets that affect the daily lives of residents in the northern area. They also reported that the Deliberative Council did not have access to the detailed budget or to the costs of the materials for the project.
The opposition announced in advance that it will submit a request for reports at the beginning of the legislative year to audit the expenses of the current administration. The complaint includes the demand that the Folklore Commission present the accounting statements corresponding to the 2023 and 2024 periods. The lack of information about public accounts generates uncertainty about the management of resources in a context of local crisis.

Technical details and justification
Mayor Raúl Cardinali defended the project, arguing that it is a strategic space to enhance the tourist profile. The structure has 400 square meters (4,305.6 square feet) of covered space and will have the capacity to receive 200 people seated with a view of the main stage. The place occupies the sector where the old transmission booths operated and will offer gastronomic services throughout the year.
The installation includes an exclusive natural gas supply for the kitchen equipment and an underground three-phase electrical network. The gastronomic sector will be equipped with stainless steel countertops and hoods to guarantee the operability of the food service. The authorities seek for the public to be able to enjoy the show with greater comfort, integrating culture and quality services.

The municipality confirmed that it will remove seats from the square to expand the capacity of the grounds by between 2,000 and 3,000 places for the annual final. The measure responds to the high demand for tickets caused by the performance of various artists. The impact of the festival goes beyond the venue, since more than 100,000 people are expected to visit the city during the nine Cosquín moons.
