Prince William and Kate Middleton congratulated the future King of the United Kingdom.
Guillermo and Kate released a new official portrait and broke with family tradition
Prince George, heir to the British throne, celebrated his 12th birthday with a new official portrait that his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, shared with the public. Unlike previous years, the image was not taken by Kate Middleton, but by a professional photographer.
This time, the royal family once again entrusted Josh Shinner, the same artist who photographed Prince Louis for his seventh birthday. By the style and setting, everything indicated that both photos belonged to the same session.

A rural-style image with a royal touch
The portrait showed George in a rolled-up plaid jersey and a dark brown fleece vest, similar to those worn on country outings. He posed in a relaxed manner, leaning on a wooden fence, with the typical English countryside landscape in the background.
This setting had already been used in other family portraits, reaffirming the approachable and traditional image that the Prince and Princess of Wales sought to project. The simple and warm aesthetic reflected a more intimate side of the young heir.

In addition to the portrait, a brief video was released in which George appeared playing with his siblings,Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The footage showed him smiling, relaxed, and fully connected with his surroundings, reinforcing the image of as normal a childhood as possible within royal protocol.

His academic future and the weight of tradition
George is in his final year at Lambrook School, the school he attends with his younger siblings. At age 13, he will have to change institutions, and his parents have considered two options: Eton College, where Prince William and Harry studied, or Marlborough College, where Kate attended.

If they were to choose Marlborough, it would be the first time a future British king attends a coeducational school, breaking with the historic male tradition in the education of the Windsors.
Since his birth in 2013, George has become the third living heir in direct line to the throne. Queen Elizabeth II witnessed a line of succession that included her son Charles, her grandson William, and her great-grandson George, something that had not happened since the Victorian era.
