A recreational 5-a-side soccer match in Rafaela, Santa Fe, ended in scandal after Darío "Chipi" Gandín, a former player for Independiente, Colón, and Atlético de Rafaela, became involved in a serious fight that was caught on video and quickly went viral on social media.
The match was friendly and amateur in nature, a space where the former forward, who has been retired for several seasons, usually plays with friends while he supports the career of his son Valentino, who is currently at Barracas Central. However, the calm of the match was shattered after a play on the sideline: Gandín bounced the ball off an opponent and, immediately afterward, he reacted with a punch that sparked the brawl.
In the footage, captured by a camera set up to record the best plays, viewers can see how "Chipi" corners the other player with a flurry of punches until the rest of those present intervene to stop the scene. According to local reports, the opponent's ear ended up visibly damaged and with a slight hemorrhage after the altercation.
