The socialist deputy Myriam Bregman was once again exposed after another uncomfortable precedent came to light for the banner of "feminism" and the left. In addition to her negative vote in 2016 against the effective imprisonment of rapists, in 2023 she was absent during a key vote to create a protocol for the protection and detection of sexual abuse against girls, boys, and adolescents.
The episode occurred during the session on October 10, 2023, in the Chamber of Deputies, when the body addressed a package of projects that included the creation of the Protocol for the Protection and Detection of Sexual Abuse against Girls, Boys, and Adolescents in the areas where they carry out their activities. The deputy chose not to participate, demonstrating her true lack of interest in defending the vulnerable.
Bregman was once again against the flags he claims to defend.
According to legislative records, Bregman was listed among the deputies present at the beginning of the session. However, at the time of the vote, her name did not appear among the affirmative votes or abstentions. In other words, the leftist legislator did not participate in a vote aimed at strengthening tools for the prevention, detection, and action in cases of child sexual abuse.
The initiative aimed for sports, social, recreational, educational, religious, or any other type of institutions, both public and private, to build protocols for the prevention and detection of abuse against minors together with the authorities of each jurisdiction.
The project was approved without negative votes and with the support of the present legislators. Bregman's absence, in this context, once again sparked criticism for the contradiction between the left's public discourse on gender and childhood, and its behavior in political practice.
This precedent adds to another episode that had already generated strong questioning. In November 2016, Bregman voted against a modification to Law 24.660 on the Execution of the Deprivation of Liberty, which sought to restrict early releases and benefits for those convicted of serious crimes against sexual integrity.
That reform, which was later enacted as Law 27.375, prevented those convicted of sexual crimes from accessing certain penitentiary benefits. The vote recorded 134 affirmative votes and 69 negative votes, including that of the current leader of the Left Front.
Bregman also opposed effective prison sentences for rapists.
Bregman attempted to justify that vote by arguing that the reform did not exclusively address rapists and that, according to her stance, it granted greater discretion to the Penitentiary Service. However, her behavior was recorded: she voted against a norm that provided more protection to victims of abuse.
While the socialist and "feminist" accuses her critics of spreading false news, parliamentary documents show a sequence that dismantles her entire narrative: first she voted against limiting benefits to those convicted of sexual crimes, then she did not participate in a key vote to prevent and detect abuse against minors.
