The disastrous president of the Argentine Football Association (AFA), Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, received judicial authorization to leave the country in the context of the case that is investigating him for alleged improper withholding of social security contributions. The permit will allow him to make a three-day trip abroad to take part in a CONMEBOL meeting in Brazil and in an event of the Colombian Football Federation.
The authorization was granted by Judge Diego Amarante, who had previously ordered a ban on leaving the country and summoned Tapia to give an investigative statement, in exchange for bail of 5 million pesos. The official will travel between February 24 and 27, and he must return and appear before the magistrate next March 5, while the AFA treasurer, Pablo Toviggino, was summoned for the following day.

In addition to the president and the treasurer, the judicial measure also applies to Gustavo Lorenzo, AFA's general director, to the secretary general, Cristian Malaspina, and to the former secretary general, Víctor Blanco.
The investigation originated from a complaint by the Revenue and Customs Control Agency (ARCA), which accuses AFA of having acted as a withholding and collection agent of national taxesand social security resourceswithout depositing the corresponding amounts within the legal period of 30 days after the due date.
According to the filing, the periods under analysis cover from March 2024 to September 2025 and include withholdings for VAT, Income Tax, and social security contributions. In that period, the sum of obligations not paid on time would reach $7,593,903,512.23. Subsequently, the agency expanded the complaint and added another $11,759,643,331.62, so the total under investigation exceeds $19.3 billion.

ARCA officials stated that "the amounts in question do not constitute the taxpayer's own funds, but rather third-party resources that belong to the State from the very moment of withholding", and they warned that the failure to pay them in could constitute improper appropriation of public funds.
As the case moves forward, the disgraceful Tapia will be able to carry out his international agenda before appearing before the courts.
