Diego Latorre, one of the most renowned Argentine sports journalists, surprised everyone this Monday by announcing that he will begin a new chapter as a head coach. The former Boca footballer, currently a top-level match commentator both locally and internationally and a panelist on ESPN, confirmed on the F90 show that he will make his debut as a coach.
Far from the spotlight of professional football, his first experience will be in a much more informal but no less significant setting: the Copa Potrero. He will lead La Jaula, a team that holds a very special meaning for him, since it includes his own son.
"This is my first experience. It's going to be in the Copa Potrero, on a team where my son plays. So there can't be any conflicts," Latorre joked, after being introduced by Sebastián Vignolo on the show. Without losing his characteristic style, he added: "The team is called La Jaula. I'm looking for an assistant coach."
Faced with his colleagues' curiosity, he also revealed that his son, Dieguito, plays as a forward, and he replied with laughter when asked if his playing style was similar to his own as a player.
The announcement also included an amusing riddle involving a possible reinforcement for his team. Vignolo hinted that it is a goalkeeper who "played for three of the so-called big five teams," without revealing the name, although several panelists claimed to know who it is.
