Disney took a step into the artificial intelligence business by investing 1 billion dollars in OpenAI and enabling the use of more than 200 iconic characters in Sora. The agreement marks a turning point in the relationship between major entertainment brands and AI.
The decision contrasts with the hard stance that the company adopted toward Google, which it forced to remove unauthorized caused content.

Exclusivity with Sora: what the agreement between Disney and OpenAI includes
According to official statements cited by media outlets specialized in technology and business, Disney authorized the exclusive use of its characters in Sora for one year. These include Mickey Mouse, Elsa, Iron Man, and the rest of the Marvel universe.
Starting in January 2026, users will be able to create videos of up to 60 seconds with these characters. Disney will receive a percentage of the revenue and will retain full control over the permitted uses.
What type of content is prohibited
The contract expressly prohibits any violent, sexual, or political material. Noncompliance allows Disney to cancel the agreement immediately.
