The U.S. president requested that the legal proceedings against the Israeli prime minister be canceled
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, publicly called for Israel to cancel the corruption trial against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or to grant him a pardon.
Through a post on his social network Truth Social, Trump described Netanyahu as a "great hero" and a "warrior," and suggested that he should be exonerated for everything he has done for the State of Israel.
"Bibi Netanyahu's trial should be CANCELED, IMMEDIATELY, or he should be granted a pardon," Trump wrote, indicating that he had learned Netanyahu would appear before the court the following Monday.

Netanyahu was charged in 2019 in Israel with alleged bribery, fraud, and breach of trust in three criminal cases. He has denied all the accusations and has pleaded not guilty. His trial began in 2020 and has been a central topic in Israeli politics in recent years.
Trump compared the judicial process against Netanyahu to the political persecution against him in the United States, once again using the term "witch hunt," just as Netanyahu has repeatedly done regarding his own accusations.
In his post, Trump also stated: "It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it will be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu," in a clear allusion to American support for Israeli attacks against Iran's nuclear program.

Netanyahu thanked President Trump for his support following the latter's public call to cancel the trial. Through the social network X, Netanyahu expressed his gratitude for Trump's "sincere support" for him, Israel, and the Jewish people, and expressed his desire to continue collaborating on issues such as the release of hostages and the expansion of peace.
Trump's support was well received by Netanyahu's allies, such as ministers Shlomo Karhi and Miki Zohar, who described the trial as an "unimaginable injustice." The Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir, also supported Trump, stating that the process was created by the deep state.
The trial has faced multiple delays, partly due to the war in Gaza and recent tensions in Lebanon. This Thursday, Netanyahu's lawyer requested a new two-week postponement due to recent regional and global events. Trump's intervention has added an international dimension to this complex judicial process.
