The President of the United States, Donald Trump, was honored this Friday with the recently created FIFA Peace Prize, an award that the international organization introduced to highlight "the enormous efforts of those who unite people and bring hope to future generations."

The ceremony took place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, a venue that will also host the draw for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The award presentation was led by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who emphasized the role of the American leader in various processes related to the pursuit of peace in conflict regions. According to the official, the distinction was granted to Trump for his "extraordinary action" to promote peace in critical areas of the world, including Gaza, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Ukraine.

Trump expressed his gratitude for the recognition before a packed audience. "It's one of the greatest honors of my life," he stated during his speech, in which he also received a large golden trophy and a commemorative medal. The president asserted that his commitment to peace is above any distinction, recalling that upon arriving at the venue he had said, "I don't care about awards, I care about saving lives."

In his speech, the leader of the Republican Party also highlighted the role that the United States intends to play on the international stage in the coming years. "The world is a safer place now, and I believe the United States is going to keep it that way," he said, reinforcing the idea of continuity in his foreign policy and his stance in the various conflicts in which he had participation or diplomatic influence.

Trump and Infantino have maintained a close relationship for years, especially within the framework of the FIFA official's campaign to consolidate the growth of "soccer" in American territory. Infantino has publicly defended the peace initiatives promoted by Trump in the Middle East and highlighted their global relevance.

The FIFA Peace Prize, which was awarded for the first time this time, aims to become an annual distinction that recognizes the impact of political, social, or sports figures who work in favor of stability and understanding among nations.

The selection of Trump as the first recipient marked a strong institutional gesture by the entity that governs world football, on a day when sports, diplomacy, and politics converged on the same stage.
