The U.S. president made those statements after being asked about the Argentina national team

Ahead of the draw for the upcoming World Cup, United States President Donald Trump once again publicly praised Argentine President Javier Milei and highlighted the political direction of the Argentine government.
When asked by international media about the Argentina national team, the president once again expressed his support for President Milei, with whom he has strengthened the bilateral relationship in recent months.
“I love Argentina, its president is doing a very good job”, Trump stated in response to a question from journalist Sofía Martínez, a correspondent for Telefe.
His statements came in a context where the United States will be one of the three hosts of the World Cup, along with Mexico and Canada, and where the presence of international sports and political figures caused extensive media coverage.
In that same exchange, the U.S. head of state made a direct reference to MAGA, the slogan that defined his political career (“Make America Great Again”), but adapted to the Argentine context.
When speaking about Milei, Trump mentioned “make Argentina great again”, a phrase that quickly went viral on social media and demonstrated the closeness both leaders have shown in various meetings and statements.
Accompanied by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, Trump was also asked about the possibility of attending a match featuring Lionel Messi, the global soccer star and one of the most anticipated names for the upcoming World Cup.

Although he praised the Argentine captain by stating that he is “fantastic”, the president also referred to a recent meeting with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, another international figure who will also be a protagonist in the tournament.
The relationship between the Trump family and Messi had a recent chapter outside of politics. Ivanka Trump, daughter of the U.S. president, attended Inter Miami's recent victory over Nashville SC, which qualified the "Las Garzas" team for the Eastern Conference semifinals of MLS.
In addition to attending the match, Ivanka shared a special moment: her three children entered the Chase Stadium field hand in hand with the players, including Lionel Messi, creating a scene that quickly became a trend.
Trump's approach toward Milei is not coincidental. In recent months, both presidents have consolidated a relationship that included private conversations and coordination of economic strategies.
Meanwhile, the relationship facilitated key financial agreements for Argentina amid the currency tensions recorded before the October legislative elections.
