In the latest episode of VAR de Copas, Emilio Moreira, the influential streamer, held nothing back when discussing sports broadcasts in Argentina. In that sense, he targeted Pablo Giralt and questioned the narrator's prioritization of his own dramatic persona over narrating what is truly happening on the field.
Moreira stated that he would rather listen to “some random Mexicans” than endure Giralt. According to him, the narrator has abandoned the basic craft of describing the match to chase epic phrases, viral moments, and an exaggerated drama that borders on the ridiculous.
Giralt and his obsession with making a throw-in epic
“What happened with Giralt in the World Cup should never have happened,” he declared, referring to the overwhelming emotion that turned the booth into a personal stage. Instead of precision and rhythm, Giralt seems obsessed with breaking his voice, crying over inconsequential goals, and creating cheap epic moments.
Moreira, who values narration as a “fantastic companion” of traditional radio, laments that today everything is marketing, NBA-style intros, narrators more focused on their image on social media and leaving “historic phrases” than on informing the fans.
Giralt embodies this trend since his emotional breakdown in the 2021 Copa América, which some recognize as genuine, but it seems he has taken the resource to the extreme, crying over everything, shouting “old man no maaa” to the point of exhaustion, and turning every throw-in into a drama.
The influencer did not limit himself to one name; he criticized the ecosystem where narrators and commentators seek more attention than rigor. Varsky with his irrelevant data and Giralt with his systematic crying represent, for Moreira, a degradation of sports journalism.
Instead of being a vehicle to enjoy the match, they become protagonists who tire and distract. “Please, narrate the mother that gave birth to you,” he joked, mimicking the exaggerated style that annoys so much.
