After years ofadvocating for feminism and with no film projects in sight, Emma Watson broke her silence and explained why she decided to step aside from her acting career.
In an interview with Hollywood Authentic magazine, the British woke star discussed the reasons behind her departure from cinema, spoke about her current well-being, and said that she is exploring new creative paths.
The last time Watson appeared on the big screen was in Little Women (2019), directed by Greta Gerwig. This production received six Oscar nominations.

Since then, she has chosen to stay away from sets, red carpets, and the fast-paced rhythm of the industry, something that, as she confessed, made her feel increasingly uncomfortable.
Watson was direct when referring to one of the most exhausting aspects of her profession: constant exposure.
"A more important element than the work itself is the promotion and sale of that work of art. The balance of that can really throw you off. I'll be honest and direct: I don't miss selling things. I found it quite demoralizing," she stated.
Although she made it clear that she still feels passion for acting, she also acknowledged that the environment in which she worked was not healthy for her: "I really miss using my skills and I really miss the art. But I realized that everything surrounding the work in front of the camera was not enjoyable for me," she said.

One of the most revealing points of the interview was when Watson spoke about the emotional burden of maintaining a flawless public image. "That part needs to be constantly fed, polished, and glamorized. It's something that consumes a lot of energy," she explained.
Freeing herself from those demands was key to regaining her personal balance. "Since I made certain decisions about my work life, I'm happier and healthier than ever. Freeing myself from multiple identities gave me a lot of space to be a better sister, daughter, friend, granddaughter, and, ultimately, artist. That is, someone who tries to develop her own critical thinking," she reflected.
Although she did not give specific details about her next steps, Watson said that she is working on a project that is new for her. "I feel a bit like a person in the dark, stumbling around, searching for the boundaries of something and waiting. It feels like I'm looking for a switch. But that's fine. That's the process of creating things," she commented enthusiastically.
While she made it clear that for now she doesn't plan to return to acting in major productions, she admitted that she remains connected to her artistic essence. In fact, she revealed that she recently participated in a theater rehearsal with friends and that, even though it was something informal, she once again felt the pressure of the stage: "I forgot how much it was. It wasn't even for a real audience and it was stressful."
