After several days of negotiations, Martín Demichelis already has a new destination as head coach. The Argentine coach reached a full agreement with RCD Mallorca and in the coming hours he will travel to Spain to sign his contract.
Initially, the deal will run until June 30, with the urgent mission of securing survival in LaLiga. If he achieves the objective of keeping the team in the top division, the contract could be extended for at least one more season.
Mallorca is in the relegation zone (18th in the table) and is going through a delicate moment after the departure of Jagoba Arrasate. In that scenario, the board moved quickly and chose Demichelis from a shortlist of candidates, especially valuing his European training, his experience in high-demand clubs, and his recent spell at River and Monterrey.
Demichelis tendrá la misión de salvar del descenso al Mallorca
The former defender also has extensive experience in European soccer as a player and also worked as a coach in Bayern Munich's youth divisions, experience that carried weight in the decision of the Spanish club.
His debut could take place on matchday 27, when Mallorca visits Osasuna at El Sadar, in a key clash for survival. He will then face a demanding schedule, with fixtures against opponents such as Real Madrid, Villarreal, and Valencia.
With a limited number of matches ahead, Demichelis will face the challenge of organizing the team and changing its course in a decisive stretch of the championship. It will be his second experience coaching in Europe, this time as head coach of a first team, and a new chapter in his career, now with the pressure of keeping a club in the elite of Spanish soccer.
Demichelis's numbers as head coach
Although he had previous experiences as assistant coach and coach at Málaga and Bayern Munich, Micho's official debut as head coach took place at the club of his dreams: River. Since his arrival in early 2023 to replace Marcelo Gallardo, he coached 87 matches for the Millonario, of which he won 52, drew 16, and lost 19. He also lifted three trophies: 2023 Liga Profesional, 2023 Supercopa Argentina, and 2023 Trofeo de Campeones.

After his departure from La Banda in August 2024, Demichelis took over at Rayados de Monterrey. Until his abrupt departure in May of last year, he coached just 43 matches at the Mexican club, with a record of 20 wins, 11 draws, and 12 defeats. Meanwhile, in this short spell he didn't celebrate any titles.
