Juan Román Riquelme keeps adding detractors, even from his own side. After the defeat against Vélez at the Amalfitani, Pablo Carroza, a journalist close to the mobster Claudio "Chiqui" Tapia, launched harsh criticism against the president of Boca, with whom he is ideologically aligned.
First, Carroza recalled the unbelievable substitution ofChanguito Zeballos in the semifinals of the 2025 Clausura Tournament to question Úbeda's abilities as Xeneize's head coach. "I understand that people have to criticize and that people have to point out mistakes and there isn'ta single soccer fan in the world who can understand that Changuito Zeballos's substitution in the match against Racing was right because people heard the "uhhh" at Boca's stadium", he stated.
From there, he went further and argued that responsibility can't fall solely on the coach in charge. In that regard, he questioned the continuity of "Sifón" at the helm of the team and he pointed directly at Riquelme. "That was enough to tell Úbeda thank you for everything, but you're going down to the reserves, you're going to work with Chipi Barijo, you're going to work at Boca Predio, but Boca's coach is going to be someone else", he fired.
Carroza apuntó contra Úbeda
He even challenged him to formally take over the leadership if he believes he must intervene directly: "Take charge of the team and coach it yourself and tell Boca's members"I'm going to be the coach and I'm going to choose the players and I'm going to build the team and I'm going to take responsibilityand the day things do not work out I'm going to fire myself as coach", but take charge".
In his analysis, Carroza also questioned the role of the Football Council and he hinted that the coach ends up being a figure constrained by the board. "Don't appoint Úbeda because he is a puppet of the Football Council that remains from Chelo Delgado and company and from the current board of directors", he commented.
He also opened another front of debate: the management of the professional squad. "You have to explain to Boca's fans why there are so many players who are wandering around on loan, why the players who are being paid salaries to guys who are drinking mate next to the substitutes' bench do not leave when they aren't ready to play for Boca's first team and you know it", he stressed.
Carroza le pidió explicaciones a Riquelme por la situación actual de los jugadores de Boca
Finally, Carroza rejected the idea that his criticism responds to external interests and he defended himself from possible accusations. "Not everyone who tells you things as they are or who gives an opinion is working an angle against you. I am not interested in working an angle because, I insist, on the other side is Clarín. I'm not going to swallow Clarín's cookie, I'm not going to swallow the cookie of a complaint against Riquelme", he concluded.
