The former Bolivian president once again stirred up conspiracy theories after MAS’s defeat

Compartir:

The former Bolivian president, Evo Morales, reappeared this Monday with a new political outburst by claiming that the Argentine president, Javier Milei, allegedly asked Bolivia's president-elect, Rodrigo Paz, to "get rid of Evo." Without presenting any evidence, Morales asserted that both presidents would be behind an alleged "pact to end his life."

The message, published on his X (formerly Twitter) account, reflects the bewilderment of the cocalero drug trafficking leader after the historic defeat of the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) in the October 19 elections, which put an end to almost two decades of left-wing hegemony in Bolivia.

Government officials avoided responding to the former president's delusional accusations, understood as fantasies typical of someone who lost power and seeks the spotlight. At Casa Rosada, officials emphasized that the relationship between Milei and Rodrigo Paz is cordial and institutional, and that the President's presence at the November 8 inauguration aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and energy integration between both countries.

Morales used his post to revive old grievances against Argentina's Security Minister, Patricia Bullrich, whom he accused of having "sent weapons" to the transitional government of Jeanine Áñez in 2019, reviving a narrative repeatedly disproven by Argentine and Bolivian courts.

The political context in La Paz is far removed from that narrative. Rodrigo Paz, elected with 54.5% of the vote, is promoting a liberal centrist government focused on economic openness, state modernization, and an end to the ideological confrontation that characterized MAS.

In Buenos Aires, Milei celebrated that Bolivia "returns to the free world" and highlighted the Bolivian people's desire for democratic renewal. The harmony between both presidents contrasts with Evo Morales's radicalization, who seeks to regain political relevance by resorting to increasingly extravagant accusations.

Far from the revolutionary epic he once embodied, the former president now seems trapped in his own persecution narrative. The region, meanwhile, is shifting toward governments that embrace freedom, market economies, and institutional respect—values Morales never understood.
