The buildup to the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain began with delays and a strong security operation at MetLife Stadium

Just hours before the decisive match between Argentina and Spain, thousands of spectators began to arrive at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where significant delays were reported for entering the venue.

The operation implemented for the final caused extensive lines at the entrances, with waits that, in some areas, exceeded two and a half hours. The large number of people and the strictness of the checks slowed down the entry of fans, journalists, and accredited personnel.

Unlike previous matches in the tournament, the security checks were under the supervision of U.S. security forces, due to the attendance of numerous officials, including President Donald Trump.

The procedure was similar to that of an airport: bag checks, personal item inspections, metal detector screenings, and verification of belongings before allowing entry to the stadium.

Another factor that complicated entry was that the same access points were used by different groups linked to the event.

Through the checks passed fans, journalists, volunteers, event staff, members of the pre-game show and halftime show, as well as food service personnel, which considerably increased wait times.
