Ford Argentina confirmed this Wednesday a new investment of USD 170 million in its General Pacheco industrial plant, aimed at producing from 2027 the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the popular midsize pickup Ford Ranger.
This announcement marks a significant step in consolidating Argentina as a regional industrial hub for electric and hybrid vehicles, and reflects the confidence of foreign companies in the economic framework promoted by the Government of Javier Milei.
With this disbursement, Ford's total investment in the Argentine plant amounts to USD 870 million, adding the initial USD 580 million invested in 2020 to renovate the factory with a view to producing the new Ranger from 2023, the USD 80 million in 2024 allocated to the engine plant, and the additional USD 40 million this year to increase the plant's speed, incorporate 300 new workers, and adapt the line for the new single cab and chassis version.

The announcement was made during the visit of Ford's global CEO, Jim Farley, who toured the factory and the Henry Ford technical school, and participated in a global meeting with the company's top executives. Farley's visit has symbolic value: it had been more than 10 years since the company's top executive had visited Argentina, which underscores the renewed interest of the multinational in investing in the country.
The new Ranger PHEV will differ from the current range of pickups produced in Argentina, as it will feature a gasoline engine combined with an electric motor, leaving behind the traditional turbodiesel engine. Although the brand has not yet disclosed all the technical details, it is expected that the power will exceed 320 hp, making it the most powerful one-ton pickup manufactured in the country. The lithium-ion battery will offer long-range electric autonomy and combined performance superior to current versions.

Currently, the Ranger PHEV is produced in South Africa for export to Europe and Australia, and Argentina will be the second country in the world to manufacture this hybrid version, highlighting the country's strategic role in the global automotive industry. The technical specification of the Argentine version will be unique and adapted to the regional market, ensuring a highly competitive product.
This type of foreign investment not only strengthens the local industry and generates quality employment, but also demonstrates that the economic policies of openness, stability, and capital attraction implemented by Milei's Government are achieving great results.
