Formula 1: Colapinto's numbers at Williams and his upcoming challenges at Alpine

The Argentine was officially announced as the main driver for the French team for the next five races and will seek to show a level equal to or higher than that seen in his previous team

Franco Colapinto returns to a prominent position in Formula 1. After serving as a reserve driver, the Argentine makes the big leap by becoming a main driver for the Alpine team, replacing the Australian Jack Doohan.

After completing nine races in the 2024 season with Williams, the Pilar native now takes on a new challenge with the French team. His debut as an official driver will be nextMay 18 at theEmilia-Romagna Grand Prix, at the historic Imola circuit.

Meanwhile, as we await his return, we review how Colapinto performed in those nine races of 2024 with Williams, from his starting position to his final performance.

Colapinto's results in the past season

Monza GP (Italy)

Colapinto started from 18th place and staged a solid comeback. Over the course of 53 laps, he overtook six rivals and crossed the finish line in twelfth place. He was very close to entering the points zone. A more than positive performance for his first full experience in an official F1 Grand Prix.

Baku GP (Azerbaijan)

One of the highlights of his campaign. First, he had a great qualifying (he was ninth). Although Williams's strategy wasn't the most effective, Franco remained competitive. The race had several incidents, including a collision between Checo Pérez and Carlos Sainz, which allowed him to climb positions and finish eighth. Thus, he scored his first 4 points in the premier category, a historic milestone for his career.

Singapore GP

In a demanding circuit like Marina Bay's street circuit, Colapinto qualified 12th and surprised at the start by overtaking three cars. However, once again, the team's strategic decisions didn't benefit him. Although he fought until the end, he finished 11th, just missing out on scoring another point on a track where overtaking is very difficult.

Austin GP (USA)

Starting from 14th position on the grid, the Argentine showed great composure and skill to advance in the pack. He made several clean overtakes and took advantage of a balanced strategy to cross the finish line in tenth place, adding another point to the championship.

Mexico City GP

He started 16th and maintained a competitive pace throughout the 71 laps. Despite not entering the points zone, he finished 12th, marking his fifth consecutive completed race. A clear sign of consistency and adaptation in his first full year in the category.

Interlagos GP (Brazil)

This weekend was difficult for Colapinto. He didn't score in the Sprint (he finished 12th), and an accident during qualifying affected him. On Sunday, starting from 16th place, he spun off in the rain on lap 32, crashing into a wall, causing his first retirement of the season.

Another challenging qualifying, with an accident forcing him to start from the back. Despite that, Franco managed to climb to the 14th final position, showing recovery ability on one of the most technical circuits on the calendar.

Qatar GP
Bad luck was the protagonist of this Grand Prix. He started second to last, but had no room for maneuver: a collision between Lance Stroll and Esteban Ocon in the first corner directly affected him. With severe damage to his car, he was forced to retire on that same lap.

Penalties sent him to the last place on the grid. During the first laps, a collision with Oscar Piastri caused a puncture and general damage to the car. Despite trying to continue, the Argentine had to retire after just 21 laps.
