Forza Horizon 6, the new installment in Playground Games' successful driving franchise, has confirmed its release date for next May 19 on Xbox Series and PC, with a later launch on PlayStation 5 as well. The announcement was accompanied by the first gameplay details, which reveal an ambitious focus on Japan as the central setting of the open world.
The studio promises a renewed experience, both in scale and variety, combining large urban centers with extensive rural areas and mountain roads. From day one, players will have access to more than 550 vehicles, along with new customization options and events designed to extend the game's lifespan.
A renewed progression structure within the Horizon Festival
Unlike previous installments, Forza Horizon 6 proposes a different progression narrative. The player assumes the role of a tourist in Japan who seeks to qualify for the prestigious Horizon Festival. To advance, it will be necessary to complete specific challenges and obtain wristbands by participating in showcases, challenges, and the new Horizon Rush event, which focuses on obstacles and skill tests.

As players progress, more exclusive competitions are unlocked. Obtaining the golden wristband grants access to Legend Island, an area reserved for the most experienced players, with special races and unique challenges.
Tokyo on a large scale and the addition of Touge races
One of the most notable aspects is the recreation of Tokyo, which, according to Playground Games, will be five times larger than any urban area previously developed by the studio. The city will be divided into multiple districts, each with its own identity, and connected to wide rural areas.
As a key new feature, Forza Horizon 6 incorporates Touge races, traditional Japanese competitions that take place on narrow, winding mountain roads. This type of race introduces a more technical and authentic approach, setting itself apart from the open circuits that are characteristic of the franchise.
Advanced customization and social spaces for the community
The Estate system is another major addition. It will allow players to customize an old Japanese rural property, building everything from mountain retreats to private circuits. This estate will function as an activity hub and can be modified using in-game credits.

The options to acquire up to eight homes are maintained, but now with a higher level of customization. Added to this is Car Meets, a social feature that allows players to gather at iconic locations such as the festival, the Okuibuki mountains, and Daikoku, an icon of Japanese car culture. There, players will be able to view, download, and purchase designs created by other players.
Launch, platforms, and expectations
Microsoft has confirmed that Forza Horizon 6 will arrive on May 19, 2026 on Xbox Series and PC, while the PlayStation 5 version will be available later in the same year. Playground Games is working together with Turn 10 Studios with the goal of expanding the franchise to new audiences and consolidating its multiplatform profile.
With more than 550 cars, a large-scale map, and a strong focus on exploration, collecting, and social interaction, Forza Horizon 6 seeks to reaffirm its place as one of the main benchmarks of the arcade racing genre.
