After a series of adverse results, Franco Colapinto needed a race that would allow him to regain confidence and feel competitive again. The Mexican Grand Prix offered him that opportunity: he had a good start, made several overtakes, stayed in the fight with faster rivals, and finished eighth after completing 71 laps.
Once the race was over, the Argentine analyzed his performance and particularly highlighted the first start, where he managed to gain several positions. "It was very good, the first one was very good, I passed Norris, I passed Pierre, I think, and the one in the other more, so very good", he explained about the initial meters.
Colapinto also felt that he had made the most of the opportunities the car offered him during the race. "I think I executed everything perfectly, I maximized what we could today", he stated. In that sense, he pointed out some of the difficulties that Alpine still faces compared to other teams. "There's still a lot to open up at the back, like it was with the Racing Bulls, I'm sliding all the same sector, they have much better traction, but then on the straight we defend ourselves", he described.
Despite those limitations, he valued being able to maintain performance and avoid mistakes in a race marked by incidents, neutralizations, and strategic changes. "There were many moments to make mistakes, which could cost, and I did everything perfectly, so I'm happy, happy with the performance", he added. And he left a phrase that reflects the importance of this result after the recent performances: "I think we are back where we needed to be, so it was a good first step and now we continue towards Brazil".
On the other hand, the Argentine also highlighted the possibility of staying competitive and fighting for positions within the top 10, something he considered a positive sign for Alpine after the recent races. "I'm happy, it was enjoyable, I think when you're there fighting for points in the race, when you're battling with those ahead, with Norris, with Piastri, with Lindblad, who were very fast today, it's very positive", he expressed.
Additionally, he emphasized the affection he feels for the country and the importance of having achieved a positive result on Mexican soil. "My first points in Mexico, which is also my home race, along with Brazil, I love Mexico and I really enjoy racing here, and I had never scored before, so first time here in Mexico, very happy", he stated.
The performance also left a door open to improve his result in the final classification, awaiting the decisions of the race stewards regarding penalties and investigations after the race. However, beyond that possibility, Colapinto focused on the positive feelings that Sunday left him. "I think we executed everything very well and that was the main thing”, he concluded.
