The defeat of Boca against Independiente in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Apertura Tournament not only marked another sports blow for the team, but also unleashed a torrent of criticism toward the club's management. One of the harshest critics was undoubtedly the journalist Gabriel Anello, who, through a heated broadcast, directly targeted Juan Román Riquelme, the institution's president.

Anello's reaction was forceful:"The people now insulting the committee, insulting Riquelme, insulting everyone. Boca out, Boca guessed, all Riquelme's. All, all Riquelme's," he harshly stated. He continued:"Go on, Román, go on and play the victim now. Give Boca back its great history, Riquelme, because you stole it."
The elimination against a coachless Independiente was the perfect scenario for indignation."Boca eliminated, Boca in its worst sports year, Boca led by a scoundrel, by an incompetent. Independiente brought it to its knees without a coach," Anello fired, referring to the current institutional and football situation of the La Ribera club.
The journalist also echoed the chants at La Bombonera:"The committee, the committee, yes Riquelme, they're shouting at you to go to hell. The people enraged, the people super, super angry." He left a direct message to the Xeneize president:"I would only make one request: give the club back to the members, Riquelme. You stole it all, you kept it for yourself. You even took Boca's great glory."
The criticism didn't stop there. Anello held Riquelme responsible for each of the decisions that, according to his analysis, led Boca to this present:"The one responsible for these failures is Riquelme. Because the one who appointed Herrón as coach is Riquelme. Because the one who brought these players is Riquelme. Because the one who is devastating Boca is Riquelme."
Meanwhile, he made a strong comparison:"The new Passarella of Boca won't send it to the B, but he will destroy it. Boca's lost glory is unattainable and the responsibility is called Juan Román Riquelme." He concluded by renaming the club as "Riquelme Athletic Club."
