The French driver experienced a challenging weekend at Marina Bay, where technical issues and the lack of competitiveness of his single-seater defined his performance
At the Singapore Grand Prix, Pierre Gasly started from the pit lane after the adjustments made by Alpine to his car, after having qualified last on Saturday. On a street circuit where overtaking is almost impossible, the Frenchman barely managed to move up to 16th place through pit stops, only to drop back to last place after the tire change and finally cross the finish line in 19th position.
In statements to the media, the Frenchman summed up his race: "I started from the pit lane, I was stuck behind a car's rear wing for 50 laps. It was a boring race".
Gasly cree que Alpine es muy lento
Regarding the physical demands of the circuit, he acknowledged: "We were too slow for it to be physically demanding. We knew that starting from the pit lane was going to be complicated, but for now it's not really enjoyable to race like this. We simply aren't competitive enough to fight. It's a bit frustrating".
The Frenchman agreed with his teammate Franco Colapinto in pointing out the need to improve Alpine's performance: "Honestly, the last few weekends haven't been good enough. Even if we aren't competitive, it feels like overall we aren't managing to make everything fit together. We sit down with the team and we all work together.
Gasly también cree que tienen que mejorar su rendimiento
However, he remains hopeful for the next race: "I think Austin should be better, because of the characteristics of the circuit. But for now, it's not a good moment".
Despite the difficult present, Gasly assured that he always tries to take advantage of every opportunity: "You still try. We keep trying to put pressure on the car ahead. We keep trying to force it into a mistake. Ultimately, that's what you do. There are quite a few things we need to discuss with the team. Deep down, we're simply too slow. That makes it painful on Saturdays and Sundays".
Despite the difficulties in Singapore, Gasly and Alpine hope to improve in the upcoming races, trusting that more conventional circuits like Austin will allow them to show better performance.
