This Monday night, a violent armed confrontation took place in the town of Aldo Bonzi, in the district of La Matanza, when a gang of thieves attempted to rob two Gendarmerie brothers at the door of a residence. The incident resulted in a dead criminal and three people wounded by gunfire: one of the gendarmes, his partner, and a neighbor who was passing by.
The event occurred around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of Pirán and Janner streets. Carlos G., a corporal in the National Gendarmerie who serves at the Centinela Building in the Retiro neighborhood of Buenos Aires, had arrived there. The officer arrived in his Volkswagen Gol Trend to visit his brother, Ariel G., also a corporal in the force and assigned to Mobile Detachment 2 in Ezeiza.
While he was stopped in front of the residence, Carlos noticed the arrival of a Ford Focus driving suspiciously. Minutes later, his suspicions would be confirmed: at least three criminals got out of the vehicle with the intention of robbing. The gendarme managed to react in time and sped away to avoid being intercepted.

The situation was different for Ariel G., who was already on the sidewalk and ended up face to face with the assailants. According to the reconstruction of the case, he tried to defend himself and at that moment an intense shootout broke out.
In the midst of the exchange of gunfire, one of the thieves was shot dead. He was identified as Kevin Agustín Escobar, 22 years old, who resided in the town of 9 de Abril, in the district of Esteban Echeverría. Authorities confirmed that he had prior convictions for aggravated robbery and aggravated concealment in a recent case from the Judicial Department of Esteban Echeverría. His accomplices managed to escape and remain at large.
Ariel G. suffered a gunshot wound to his mouth, while his partner, 25 years old, was shot in the chest. In addition, a neighbor passing through the area was hit by a bullet in one of his legs. Both gendarmes and the injured civilian were rushed to Alberto Balestrini Hospital.

Both Ariel G. and his girlfriend underwent surgical procedures and are in stable condition, awaiting their recovery. The injured neighbor, meanwhile, received medical attention and is out of danger.
The investigation of the incident is being handled by the Homicide Thematic UFI of La Matanza. Prosecutor Carlos Fornaro ordered various measures to fully clarify what happened and identify the fugitive criminals.
The case was classified as aggravated attempted homicide, criminis causae, since the victims are members of a security force (two counts), in real concurrence with aggravated robbery by use of weapons and for having been committed in a populated area and by a gang.
