The Government makes the mixture of bioethanol in naphtha more flexible to cushion the impact of the price of crude oil

The national government updated the regulations on the composition of naphthas and enabled companies to incorporate up to 15% of bioethanol on a voluntary basis, in a measure aimed at stabilizing prices without state intervention.

The national government moved forward with a key update in fuel quality regulations, allowing companies to voluntarily incorporate up to 15% of bioethanol into gasoline. The measure seeks to introduce greater flexibility in the market and to cushion the impact of changes in the international price of oil on pumps
.
As reported by the Ministry of Energy, the amendment does not imply a change in the current mandatory cuts, but rather gives companies greater room to decide on the composition of their fuels.
In this sense, it is a policy aligned with the approach of deregulation and less state intervention promoted by the administration of Javier Milei.
More freedom for companies and less state intervention
One of the central points of the measure is that it does not establish new impositions, but rather enables options. Companies will be able to decide whether to incorporate a higher percentage of bioethanol, up to a limit of 15%, depending on their production and commercial strategies.
The Government emphasizes that this scheme allows the market itself to find mechanisms to mitigate abrupt increases in the price of fuels, avoiding distortions generated by artificial controls, as was the case in previous efforts.
The logic behind the decision suggests that bioethanol, being a component with the lowest relative cost in certain contexts, can help to moderate the impact of crude oil fluctuations on the final price paid by the consumer
.
Price stability and predictability
The volatility of the international price of oil has historically been one of the main factors affecting the value of fuel in Argentina. In this context, the possibility of adjusting the bioethanol blend introduces an additional tool to smooth out these variations
.
By allowing greater adaptation on the part of companies, the Government is committed to generating greater predictability in the market, both for producers and consumers. This is part of a broader strategy aimed at normalizing the functioning of the energy sector, eliminating distortions accumulated over
the years.
One more step in the reconfiguration of the energy sector
The regulatory update is part of a series of measures promoted by current management to modernize the Argentine energy sector. With a focus on efficiency, competition and the reduction of regulations, the objective is to create a more dynamic and sustainable environment
.
In this framework, the flexibility of the use of bioethanol appears as a concrete tool to move towards a more open system, where decisions are guided by economic criteria and not by administrative impositions.
