The National Government reported that almost 5,000 foreigners were expelled, denied entry, arrested, or extradited from Argentina in the last two months. This is the result of the strengthening of migration controls at borders, airports, ports, and in urban operations.
The information was released by the Minister of Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, who specified that December closed with 2,400 cases. In addition, so far in January another 2,300 have been recorded, figures that she described as a record in terms of migration control.
Strengthening of controls and operations at key points
From the Ministry of Security, officials emphasized that the policy aims to prevent the entry or stay of foreigners with criminal records, involved in crimes, or in an irregular migration situation. In that context, Monteoliva maintained that the rules are clear:whoever violates the law can't remain in the country.
In official publications, the Minister stated that Argentina "is not a refuge for criminals".In that regard, she highlighted recent cases of expulsion of people with international arrest warrants, who were located, detained, and sent to their countries of origin to face justice.

During the last weekend, migration operations were carried out in Greater Buenos Aires, with a special focus on the district of La Matanza. At a market in Villa Celina, the Argentine Federal Police identified 458 people, of whom 369 were foreigners.
For the controls, the innovative Morpho RAPID ID system was used,a portable biometric device that makes it possible to identify people in real time. The device cross-checks data with different official databases, including the Federal Police Communications System (SIFCOP), the National Directorate of Migration, and the SASI system.
As a result of the operation, it was verified that 16 foreign citizens were residing in the country irregularly. Therefore, Migration Declaration reports were drawn up for them and they were ordered to regularize their status.

In addition to migration irregularities, the controls made it possible to detect violations and crimes. In four stalls at the market, the sale of cell phones that had been blocked by ENACOM after being reported as stolen was verified. This demonstrates the crime that is associated with illegal immigrants, which undermines the safety of Argentines and honest immigrants.
A stricter migration control policy

From the Government, officials indicated that the intensification of controls and the use of new technologies made it possible to reach record figures. The authorities maintain that the strategy seeks to ensure compliance with migration laws and strengthen internal security. The operations are carried out both at points of entry into the country and in urban areas of Greater Buenos Aires and other regions.
