Gustavo Sáenz stated that Kirchnerism is threatening legislators from its own bloc to reject the bill

A few hours before the debate in the Senate on the labor modernization bill promoted by the Government of Javier Milei, the governor of Salta, Gustavo Sáenz, publicly denounced the existence of pressure and threats directed at deputies and Peronist senators to prevent them from supporting the bill.

His statements exposed the intense internal conflict that Kirchnerism is going through on the eve of a key vote for both the Casa Rosada and the future of the PJ itself.

Sáenz's position emerged at a moment of maximum political tension, when the ruling party is seeking to gather the necessary votes to move forward with an initiative that aims to modernize relations between workers and business owners, while Kirchnerism is seeking to block a law that is strategic for President Javier Milei and all decent Argentines.

The focus of the conflict is on the Convicción Federal bloc, made up of five senators who do not respond automatically to the leadership of Peronism, which brings together another 28 legislators. The stance that this group adopts will be decisive for the final outcome of the vote.

The debate will begin this Wednesday at 11, in a session marked by a highly conflictive climate, where the CGT has called for a demonstration, union threats have been recorded in several provinces and Kirchnerism is seeking to boycott the vote.

In that context, Sáenz starkly exposed the authoritarian mechanism of pressure that, as he denounced, is being applied to the legislators. “There are governors and deputies who have even been threatened that their party would be placed under trusteeship”, he stated in remarks to TN.

According to his account, the logic is that if the legislators do not vote against the ruling party's bill, the national leadership of the PJ will move forward with the intervention of their provincial political structures.

The governor of Salta did not speak in hypothetical terms, but instead mentioned concrete precedents. He recalled the party interventions in Salta, Misiones and Jujuy, which, as he described, functioned as political punishments for those who deviated from the line set by Kirchnerism. This way, control of the party label is the main tool of internal discipline.

Sáenz explained that, in many provinces, the Justicialist Party continues to be the central electoral platform. Losing control of the party means being exposed to internal rivals, giving up territorial structure, funding and political organizing capacity. “It is the only electoral tool that many governors have”, he maintained.

In a scenario where alternative labels are often weak and alliances unstable, the loss of the party is equivalent, in many cases, to being left politically disarmed.
