HBO delays the 'Game of Thrones' spinoff until 2026 and disappoints all fans
HBO confirmed that the premiere of the new prequel is delayed by a year and won't be available in 2025 as expected
The new prequel series of Game of Thrones will not arrive in 2025 as expected. HBO confirmed that the premiere is moved to 2026, causing disappointment among fans.
The news was announced during an official presentation in New York. The content CEO of HBO and Max, Casey Bloys, was the one who confirmed the postponement.

Why is 'The Hedge Knight' delayed?
The series was going to be released in 2025 under the Max brand, which was renamed HBO Max. The rebranding did not affect the broadcast plans, but other production factors did.
According to the official announcement, the prequel will arrive in the winter of 2026. This delays the return to Westeros much more than the saga's followers expected.
A different proposal within the universe of Westeros
'The Hedge Knight' is set 90 years before the events of 'Game of Thrones'. The story follows Ser Duncan the Tall and his young squire Egg.

There will be no dragons, white walkers, or epic wars. This time, the plot focuses on honor, loyalty, and chivalry as central themes.
A new cast and a more intimate narrative
Peter Claffey plays Duncan, while Dexter Sol Ansell portrays Egg. The cast is completed by Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, and Sam Spruell.

The series aims to offer something different within the same universe. There will be action, but also much more introspection and character development.
George R.R. Martin anticipates a story with less epic but more heart
In his blog, the author warned that this story "is not going to be filled with dragons or great battles". The focus will be on the bonds and the personal journey of its protagonists.
Martin was clear: "It's about duty, honor, and everything they entail. It may not satisfy those who only seek action."

What's coming in the 'Game of Thrones' universe
In addition to this prequel, HBO is still working on season 3 of 'House of the Dragon'. Everything indicates that there will be Westeros for a while, but with longer pauses.
For now, fans will have to wait another year to reunite with this new stage of the franchise. Meanwhile, they should cross their fingers that the wait is worth it.
