Historic: OSPRERA reduced spending and improved coverage in line with Milei's administration
In just one year, the deficit of the social security fund, which was intervened by the national government, fell by 46%
In a context of deep transformation of the Argentine healthcare system, the Obra Social del Personal Rural y Estibadores de la República Argentina (OSPRERA) presented its June management report with unprecedented results: it achieved a dramatic reduction in its monthly deficit, optimized medical coverage, and advanced in technological modernization.
The social security fund, which is under national government intervention, achieved these results as a direct consequence of the public spending reduction policy promoted by President Javier Milei, which is being strictly applied in all agencies administered by the national government.
Deficit reduction and resource optimization: the heart of the change
OSPRERA's report highlights that 78% of its available funds were allocated exclusively to medical services and medications, an increase compared to the previous month that reflects the priority placed on member health. Through new financial strategies, the social security fund caused additional income of more than $42 million in June and $240 million accumulated since the beginning of the administration. This administration, aligned with Milei's guidelines, made it possible to reduce the average monthly deficit to $2.423 billion.
Among the most important adjustment measures is the termination of the contract with UATRE, which resulted in a monthly saving of $700 million. In addition, the reduction of tax burdens and the recovery of improperly withheld funds strengthened the entity's economic and financial balance.
Modernization and transparency: pillars of the new stage
Following the approach of the national government, OSPRERA began a deep technological modernization. This included the renewal of the institutional portal, the implementation of digital management systems, the launch of a chatbot, and the optimization of member services through digital channels. The integration of new databases, staff training, and migration to more efficient and secure systems were also added.
In line with the promotion of transparency and control, progress is being made with the creation of an Anti-Corruption Department and a Code of Ethics, in accordance with the best international practices recommended by the national administration.
Improvement in coverage and quality of services
The number of dental providers tripled, reaching 368 nationwide. Territorial coverage was significantly expanded and the number of outpatients grew by 15%. In addition, the renegotiation of agreements made it possible to halve the costs of telemedicine services, improving access and efficiency in care.
In the area of high-cost medications, the social security fund prioritized cost-effectiveness evaluation, achieving changes in treatments and generating significant savings without sacrificing quality.
Spending reduction and rationalization of the workforce
OSPRERA's management continued the process of reducing the workforce through voluntary retirements, terminations, and the optimization of overtime. This was complemented by the implementation of a new workers' compensation insurance, which made it possible to decrease the monthly rate and reduce labor costs.
A management model aligned with Javier Milei's policies
The progress recorded at OSPRERA is explained by the implementation of the management model promoted by President Javier Milei, focused on reducing public spending, efficiency, and transparency. This model, applied in agencies such as OSPRERA, shows that it is possible to achieve deep institutional restructuring, improve service quality, and advance modernization without increasing spending.
The pro-government management of OSPRERA thus positions itself as an example of what can be achieved when state adjustment and control policies are translated into concrete actions. The transformation of the social security fund is tangible evidence of the path the government proposes for the entire Argentine public sector.
