Since its launch in 2023, Hogwarts Legacy has managed to surpass 40 million copies sold worldwide, a milestone that places it among the most successful titles of recent years. Developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games, the game not only revitalized interest in the Harry Potter universe, but also demonstrated the enormous commercial potential of open-world productions based on established franchises.
The title's success reaffirms the ability of the saga created by J.K. Rowling to transcend generations and adapt to new formats, while maintaining a solid connection with its historical fan base and, at the same time, attracting a completely new audience.
Launch strategy and multiplatform expansion
One of the key factors in Hogwarts Legacy's commercial performance was its staggered release strategy. The game debuted in February 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, expanding its reach in May to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and finally arriving on Nintendo Switch in November of the same year. In 2024, Warner Bros. Games strengthened its presence with the launch on Nintendo Switch 2, further expanding its potential market.
This progressive rollout made it possible to sustain media interest over a prolonged period, avoiding the usual burnout of major releases and ensuring steady sales over time.

A proposal that expanded the Harry Potter universe
Set in the 19th century, Hogwarts Legacy offered a completely original experience within the wizarding world. The player assumes the role of a fifth-year student at Hogwarts, with broad possibilities for exploration, customization, and character development, moving away from a rigid narrative and opting for freedom of action.
