How Hoppe's dogmatism ignores Argentine reality and attacks Israel without reason
Meanwhile, Milei battles against decades of socialism, Hoppe fires against the only real libertarian leader in the world
Hans-Hermann Hoppe was once the most important reference in anarcho-capitalist thought. Today, unfortunately, he seems more like an ideological retiree who doesn't understand the modern world or the real struggles for freedom.
In his most recent intervention during the Mises Institute, he went all out against Javier Milei, accusing him of ruining the reputation of libertarians worldwide. Yes, you read that right: according to Hoppe, the guy who wants to blow up the Central Bank, cut statism, and slash privileges is damaging the movement...
Hoppe says: "If this is what he (Milei) does, that ruins the reputation of Libertarians worldwide".
Seriously, Hans? A president who puts his body on the line to curb inflation, pull the country out of the mud, and stop the communist advance is a "bad image"? For whom? For those who hold seminars in Switzerland without getting their shoes dirty?
But Hoppe goes further. He complains that Milei is friends with Trump, supports Israel, and has harsh words for Zelenski. According to him, that is incompatible with "true libertarianism". As if libertarianism were a club of moral purity and not a set of ideas in defense of freedom against the advance of totalitarianism.

Hoppe says: "Libertarianism suddenly means being a fan of Netanyahu, a fan of the clown Zelinski, and a fan of Trump… That is not libertarianism, we oppose all of them".
We oppose? Exactly whom? All those who have the courage to face radical Islamism, criminal socialism, or degenerate progressivism? And whom does Hoppe propose as a model? Swedish neutrality while the city is set on fire?
The truth is that this criticism has nothing to do with theory or strategy. It has to do with an obsession. Hoppe can't stop bringing Israel into every discussion. It's automatic.
He is so obsessed with his anti-Israel crusade that even Walter Block—another pure-blooded libertarian—had to confront him. According to Block, what really bothers Hoppe is not Milei or his monetary policy, but his firm and brave defense of the State of Israel.
And it's not the first time. Hoppe has been carrying this anti-Israel discourse for years, disguised as "non-interventionism", but it has ceased to be theory and has become mania. As if supporting Israel—a liberal democracy that fights Islamic terrorism and is a power in science, medicine, and defense—were incompatible with libertarian ideals.

Hoppe says: "Trump is not a libertarian. He is a protectionist and a warmonger. He sends huge sums of money to Israel to carry out a war".
And then what does he propose? That we become friends with Iran? That we look the other way while Hamas massacres civilians? Or simply that we remain silent, neutral, watching from the stands as if we had nothing to do with it?
Hoppe also criticizes Milei for wanting to get closer to NATO. He says that "is not libertarian" because it implies intervention. But it turns out we are talking about Argentina, a country that was handed over for years to the São Paulo Forum, Chavismo, and the Castro-Bolivarian axis. Getting closer to the West is not optional: it's survival. And Milei understands that. Hoppe, evidently, doesn't.
"Our position is that we are neutral… we don't meddle with other countries". Perfect, that works if you live in Switzerland. Not if you are the president of Argentina and are surrounded by drug traffickers, unionists, patchouli-scented progressives, and picketers living off the state.
But the most ironic thing is that Hoppe complains that Milei hasn't abolished the state in 100 days. As if it were that easy. As if there were no parliaments, unions, media, international NGOs, and bureaucrats. As if Argentina were Liechtenstein.
"He promised to 'reduce the state' and that was enough to excuse him for everything he did". Hoppe, with all due respect: what did you expect? That Milei would dissolve Congress, close ARCA, and abolish the currency in a week? And then what? Do we let Peronism return and nationalize even the oxygen?
Of course, Milei had to make concessions. And of course, not everything can be done immediately. But he is making progress. He is cutting expenses, reducing the deficit, closing ministries. He is doing what none of the salon liberals ever dared. And on top of that, he is doing it with 38 deputies in a Congress infested with parasites.
Finally, Hoppe admits: "I didn't deny that some of the things he (Milei) did were improvements. But Argentina was in such a disastrous situation that it was hard not to make improvements".
What a recognition! He basically says that if Milei did something right, it was by chance, not by merit. Is it so hard to admit that he is making history? Is it so difficult for the keyboard purists to accept that freedom is not built from the pulpit, but in the political arena, with mud up to the neck and enemies at every corner?
In conclusion, Hoppe is wrong. And not just wrong: he is disconnected, dogmatic, and dangerously obsessed with Israel. His criticism is not serious, not constructive, and contributes nothing. It only divides, discredits, and gives ammunition to the left that wants to see Milei fail to continue living off the state.
While Milei risks everything, Hoppe lectures from Europe. The former fights. The latter pontificates. And that, gentlemen, is the difference between a leader and a commentator.
