The South Korean automaker Hyundai has confirmed that it will launch a mid-size pickup in the U.S. market before 2030. With this model, it aims to fully enter a segment dominated by Toyota Hilux, Tacoma, and Chevrolet Colorado.
The announcement was made at the CEO Investor Day, where the brand's global director, José Muñoz, provided the first details. The truck will be developed on a body-on-frame chassis platform, moving away from the unibody approach of the current Santa Cruz.

Details of Hyundai's new pickup
The company did not reveal all the specifications, but indicated that the model could use the Palisade Hybrid system: a 2.5 turbo engine paired with an electric unit, with a total output of 329 hp.
This will be an in-house development, without General Motors' involvement. Collaboration with the American firm will be limited to projects for South America and commercial vans in the U.S.
What position does it hold against the competition?
With this move, Hyundai seeks to compete with benchmarks such as Hilux, Tacoma, and Colorado. Everything suggests that it will have a double cab configuration with four doors, the most popular in this segment.

If an SUV version is confirmed, the model would compete with off-road leaders such as the Toyota 4Runner, Ford Bronco, or Jeep Wrangler.
Will it share a platform with Kia Tasman?
According to specialized media, the future pickup could share components with the Kia Tasman, which is already sold in other markets. This would accelerate development and position Hyundai with a competitive offering in the region.

Background
So far, the brand's only truck in the United States has been the Santa Cruz, with a unibody chassis and Tucson base. Although it had some impact, it failed to establish itself against rivals such as the Ford Maverick.
