In an unusual announcement that comes in the context of an unprecedented political crisis and strong pressure from the United States, the Venezuelan regime reported that it will proceed to release a significant number of Venezuelan political prisoners and foreigners, according to Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly of Venezuela.
During an official message, Rodríguez stated that "from this very moment" a significant number of Venezuelan and foreign political prisoners are being released.
"The Bolivarian government, together with state institutions, has decided to release a significant number of people, Venezuelan and foreign, and these release processes are taking place from this very moment", he announced at a press conference.
This announcement comes in a context of strong pressure from the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in the midst of events that have marked a turning point in the Venezuelan political situation.
Donald Trumo y Nicolás Maduro.
Last weekend, it was publicly announced that United States forces captured the Venezuelan narco-terrorist dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife, after a special military operation in Caracas, and that they are now being prosecuted in New York on various drug trafficking charges.
In addition, Trump himself recently announced that detention centers used for abuses and torture against opponents in Venezuela are being closed, after Maduro's capture and while the U.S. judicial system moves forward with criminal proceedings against him.

The U.S. president warned Delcy Rodríguez, the new leader of the regime, about the consequences of not cooperating with Washington's demands, while he seeks greater political control and cooperation over the South American country's energy resources, including the oil sector.
Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, U.S. Secretary of State, detailed yesterday the three phases to be implemented in Venezuela. First, "the stabilization of the country. We don't want it to fall into chaos", Rubio stated during the conversation with journalists.
"The second phase will be the so-called recovery, which consists of ensuring that U.S., Western, and other countries' companies have fair access to the Venezuelan market", he added.
Finally, "the third phase, of course, will be a transition. Part of this will overlap. I have described it in great detail", he stated, in reference to the end of the Chavista regime and the establishment of a democratic system in the country.
