Córdoba Police dismantled a gang that was terrorizing app drivers in the provincial capital after a long investigation. The operation was carried out this Thursday in Villa La Lonja neighborhood and ended with the arrest of the ringleader who organized the different ambushes. Workers in the sector had been suffering repeated robberies that put their physical integrity and their personal and work property at risk.
The criminal used a sophisticated method that consisted of renting user accounts from his own neighbors for about 5,000 pesos each. This maneuver made it possible to request rides without leaving a trace and then attack the drivers when they arrived at the agreed meeting point. It was confirmed that the detainee committed at least 10 assaults in the last 3 months, seriously affecting the safety of those who go out to work.
The victims suffered the theft of their cell phones and were then forced to unlock them to transfer all the money. The thieves also stole wheels and tools from the vehicle, damaging the working capital that is essential for local private activity. The criminal method included the use of minors who acted as the first line to stop the cars in the area.
