The Milan City Council approved the sale of the Giuseppe Meazza stadium to Inter and Milan for 197 million euros, who already have plans for its demolition and the construction of a new venue. The vote was split, with 24 votes in favor and 20 against, but it was enough to give the green light to a project that will reshape the city and its football tradition.
Both clubs, owned by American funds (Oaktree in Inter's case and RedBird Capital in Milan's), plan to invest 1.2 billion euros in a 281,000-square-meter (3,025,350-square-foot) urban complex that will include a stadium with a capacity for 71,500 spectators, about 4,000 seats fewer than the current San Siro. The design will be handled by Foster + Partners and MANICA, with a focus on Euro 2032, which Italy will organize together with Türkiye.
