President Javier Milei confirmed that he will not veto the 2026 Budget Law, even after the ruling party suffered a setback in the Chamber of Deputies, where the majority decided to exclude the chapter that repealed the emergency laws on disability and university funding. Far from retreating on the central axis of his administration, the president assured that the Government "will adjust the budget items" to uphold the zero-deficit rule, without raising taxes and without giving up macroeconomic stability.
The bill was approved last Wednesday with 132 votes in favor, 97 against, and 19 abstentions, although the exclusion of Chapter XI implied, according to calculations by the Presidency, a fiscal imbalance compared to the original text promoted by the Executive. Nevertheless, Milei made it clear that fiscal discipline is not up for debate."We are going to adjust the budget items to have zero deficit, and without raising taxes. Here the important policy is zero deficit", stated the head of state, who emphasized that the Budget "is built on the basis of zero deficit" and that the Government will seek to sustain it "by all means".
In a conversation with La Cornisa, the program hosted by Luis Majul, Milei explained that the correction will be made through internal reallocations: "What we are going to do is adjust the budget items, we are going to correct it through the reassignment of expenditures in the rest of the budget or through the reformulation of resources in the areas themselves", confirming that Casa Rosada is betting that the Senate will pass the bill without amendments, as was previously indicated.
The President once again insisted on one of the doctrinal pillars of his administration: "The deficit is immoral", he reiterated, and he stressed that he will guarantee a balanced budget "without raising taxes", in contrast to decades of expansionary policies financed with inflation, debt, or tax pressure. In the same interview, Milei called for moving forward with a structural labor reform, by pointing out that "we need to modernize the labor law, today half of the workers are in the informal segment". He clarified: "What we propose doesn't take rights away from anyone, but rather grants rights".

The president also highlighted the social results of his economic program. He stated that when he took office, poverty affected 57% of the population, and he estimated that with current measurements it fell by 20 points, standing at around 27%, an improvement that he attributed to macroeconomic order and the slowdown of inflation. In financial matters, Milei offered reassurance regarding the external front and confirmed that the Government will honor without difficulties the debt maturity scheduled for January 9, for an amount exceeding 4.3 billion dollars. "We are going to pay, we are calm", he stated. He added: "We already have a large part of the cash and we also have provisions in place. From RIPO offers alone we have 7 billion dollars, so we are calm".
