The universe of The Hunger Games is once again igniting global anticipation. On Wednesday, December 10, the specialized outlet The Hollywood Reporter confirmed news that fans have been waiting for years: Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will return to the franchise to reprise their roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the upcoming film, titled The Hunger Games: Dawn at the Harvest.
The confirmation comes as production moves forward steadily and the release already has an official date: November 20, 2026.
Although Lionsgate studios are keeping the script details under wraps, sources close to the project indicated that Lawrence and Hutcherson won't have leading roles, but will appear in a sequence set in the present, while the film tells the origins of Haymitch Abernathy.
Los actores serán parte de la nueva entrega de la saga
This nod to the original protagonists serves as an emotional bridge to the films that made the saga famous and grossed more than 3.3 billion dollars worldwide.
What is The Hunger Games: Dawn at the Harvest about?
The new installment is based on Suzanne Collins's latest novel and takes viewers back to the heart of Panem. The story is set 24 years before the events of the first film, exactly on the morning of the harvest for the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the second anniversary edition.
The narrative follows young Haymitch Abernathy, played this time by Joseph Zada, showing how he experienced his traumatic participation in the games that changed his life forever. It was in this edition that Haymitch, years later mentor to Katniss and Peeta, defied the Capitol and earned its hostility forever.
La película llegará a los cines en noviembre de 2026
Directed once again by Francis Lawrence, with a screenplay by Billy Ray, the film aims to expand Panem's universe with a darker, more political, and deeper story about the institutionalized violence of the games and the seed of the future rebellion.
