Jorge Carranza closed a career spanning more than two decades with a retirement that combines history, emotion, and a new record for Argentine football. After saving Aldosivi from relegation, the goalkeeper from Córdoba announced his farewell at 44 years and 192 days.
The announcement came just a few days after achieving the goal of remaining in the First Division with Tiburón. He did so with a photo alongside his son and a direct, almost confessional message: "The moment has come. That damned moment, as the song says. That instant that those of us who dedicate ourselves to this would wish never arrived. I choose to say goodbye this way: happy and proud of the career I managed to build." That phrase, posted on his Instagram account, reflected the end of a journey in which he was captain, a reference, and a leader both on and off the field.
In this season, Carranza accumulated appearances that made him the oldest footballer to play an official match in the country's top division. First, his performance on June 1, at 44 years and 25 days, had already placed him above Hugo Gatti's record, which had remained unbroken since 1988 at 44 years and 23 days. Meanwhile, his last match against San Martín de San Juan, already at 44 years and 192 days, finished consolidating that symbolic place that will accompany him beyond retirement.

Although Guillermo Farré wanted to keep him for the next season, Carranza chose to leave at his peak and with his objectives fulfilled. His future seems tied to the same sport: he already holds a coaching license, and everything indicates that his return to football, although off the goal line, will be a matter of time.
Throughout his extensive career, Carranza played for numerous clubs (Rivadavia de Lincoln, Godoy Cruz, Atlético Rafaela, Ferro, Colón, Olimpo, San Martín de Tucumán, Boca Unidos, O’Higgins, and Correcaminos), but his legacy was especially marked at two: Instituto and Aldosivi. With La Gloria, he achieved two promotions (2004 and 2022) and did not hesitate to thank them publicly: "Thank you, Instituto, my great love in this life, thank you for shaping me. You made me a fighter who survived more than twenty years in a game of talented people." In Mar del Plata, he also left his mark, as he was a key figure in the promotion to the First Division in 2024, captain in maintaining the category, and a recognized leader within the club.

In his farewell, the goalkeeper offered a broad thank you: "Thank you to each person who crossed my path, to every club that trusted me, to all my teammates, coaching staffs, directors, journalists… and above all, to you, the fans." He also reinforced his bond with Aldosivi: "Thank you, Tiburón. You will occupy a special place in my heart."
The institutional response was not long in coming. From Mar del Plata, Aldosivi bid him farewell as "reference, leader, our captain, our champion goalkeeper," highlighting that he not only protected the goal but also the club's identity.
