The Province postponed assistance to the most vulnerable sectors again, and LLA demanded explanations for the impact

The Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof extended until January 31, 2027, the suspension of the Extraordinary Module for Food Security in Buenos Aires (MESA), an assistance program aimed at students and families in a situation of extreme vulnerability that had already been interrupted for 90 days during April.

The new extension confirms that the program will remain paralyzed for almost all of 2026 and once again exposes the budgetary priorities of a Kirchnerist administration that for years turned the supposed “present State” and “social justice” into the main arguments of its political discourse.

The MESA was created to deliver monthly food modules as a complement to the School Food Service (SAE). However, due to the deterioration of provincial finances, the Kirchnerist government decided to maintain the suspension and concentrate available resources on the political waste of the administration.

The Buenos Aires administration blamed its financial difficulties on the reduction and delay of transfers from the national government. From La Libertad Avanza (LLA), they rejected that explanation and demanded that Kicillof report the reasons for the extension, the number of people affected, the budgetary impact, and the alternatives planned for those receiving the food modules.

Liberal deputies and senators anticipated that they would present new requests for reports in both chambers of the provincial Legislature. Leaders of La Libertad Avanza in the province of Buenos Aires stated that the decision shows “the true face” of the Buenos Aires government and questioned why the governor prefers to cut food assistance rather than reduce the privileges of the political structure.

In the same vein, the head of the libertarian bloc in the provincial Senate, Carlos Curestis, stated that the Executive cannot suspend a program that reaches millions of Buenos Aires residents without explaining what alternative it will offer to families. Deputy Juan Osaba also criticized Kicillof's model and denounced that the Province was bankrupted to sustain the governor's political apparatus.

The decision again highlights the contrast between the discourse and the management of Kirchnerism in Buenos Aires. While Kicillof constantly criticizes the responsible fiscal order promoted by President Javier Milei, his own government applies an adjustment against vulnerable sectors while increasing the province's political spending.
