The Kirchnerism session in the Senate is illegal and represents an institutional coup.

The coup maneuver by the Kirchnerist bloc violates the internal regulations of the Upper House

In a clear institutional blow against the Government of Javier Milei, the Kirchnerist bloc in the Senate of the Nation pushed for an illegal session this Thursday, without the approval of the president of the chamber, Victoria Villarruel, and with insufficient quorum to address the bills that seek to destroy the fiscal surplus achieved by the libertarian administration.

The maneuver, led by Senator José Mayans, not only violates the internal regulations of the Upper House, but also constitutes an attempted institutional coup by seeking to advance initiatives with an extremely high fiscal impact—estimated at 2.5 points of GDP—without having complied with the basic regulatory procedures.

According to the Senate's regulations, a session can't be called to address laws without the signature of the president of the chamber, in this case Vice President Victoria Villarruel. Without her signature, a regulation reform should have been previously approved with a special quorum and affirmative vote of two-thirds of the chamber, which did not happen.

Despite these irregularities, Kirchnerism proceeded with a session that only gathered a simple quorum, when the agenda requires a special majority. Among the items to be addressed are the reinstatement of the pension moratorium, the declaration of a disability emergency, the increase of pensions with bonuses, and the forced redistribution of resources from the National Treasury and the liquid fuel tax, measures that would destroy the country's economy.

These proposals did not go through the proper committee process, as confirmed by Vice President Villarruel herself when she gave the floor to Mayans, who requested to vote on reports that were not even properly constituted or debated in accordance with current parliamentary procedures.

The institutional gravity of the maneuver led sectors of the ruling party to demand that Villarruel immediately adjourn the session, in order not to validate a process tainted by absolute nullity. However, the vice president chose to keep the illegal session open, a decision that caused strong criticism.

From the Executive Branch, officials are watching with concern this desperate attempt by Kirchnerism to once again destroy the country and, at the same time, force an alteration in the presidential line of succession through the possible removal of the provisional president of the Senate, currently held by La Libertad Avanza.
