Konami confirms that Silent Hill f will have a standalone and accessible story
Konami has insisted that it is a completely standalone work and not a prequel as such
Konami has confirmed that Silent Hill f, the new chapter of its legendary psychological horror saga, will function as a standalone work, meaning it won't be necessary to have played previous installments to enjoy this experience. Set in the 1960s in a small Japanese town called Ebisugaoka, the game presents a radical shift from the franchise's traditional setting, which used to take place in North American environments.
This change not only renews the visual landscape but also allows for the exploration of new cultural myths and narrative forms without losing the disturbing essence that defines the series.
Japan as a new setting for horror
Unlike previous installments, Silent Hill f takes the action to an unprecedented setting within the franchise: rural Japan in the 60s. The story follows Hinako Shimizu, a young woman facing inexplicable phenomena and surreal visions, in a context filled with mysticism and psychological anguish.

"The Japanese setting adds an extra layer of symbolism and folklore, enhancing the game's unsettling atmosphere", noted Konami, in a clear effort to differentiate this installment from its predecessors.
The studio NeoBards Entertainment is in charge of development, while the renowned writer Ryūkishi07 and other genre artists contribute their expertise in narrative and music.
A prequel with its own identity
Although Silent Hill f can be understood as a prequel within the saga's overall universe, Konami has insisted that it is a completely standalone work. There is no need to know previous plots, as this story was designed from scratch to offer a self-explanatory experience.

Through its official social media account, the company detailed that the game seeks to "balance the appeal for new players with subtle references that reconnect with classic fans." Thus, a product is expected that combines freshness and intensity, without relying on prior knowledge.
Release and expectations
The title will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC, although there is currently no official release date. Konami anticipated that it will share more details during its participation in the upcoming Anime Expo, thus keeping expectations high without making premature promises.
Everything indicates that Silent Hill f will retain the psychological horror characteristic of the saga, but with an evolution in its mechanics and narrative. The proposal aims to be inclusive and accessible, expanding the fan base without losing the disturbing essence that turned Silent Hill into a cult franchise.
