The labor reform took a decisive step in the Senate of the Argentine Nation. The ruling party obtained the committee report in a joint plenary session and left the bill ready for its consideration on the floor next Friday.
The text entered the Upper House early in the morning and was reported out shortly after midday. It was achieved after joint work by the Labor and Social Security and Budget and Finance committees. With this stage completed, the labor modernization was left one step away from becoming law.
The initiative had already obtained preliminary approval in the Senate the previous week. However, when it was considered in the Chamber of Deputies, Article 44 related to medical leave was removed. This amendment requires a new review in the Senate, which must now accept the revised text in order to grant final approval.
Gracias a la gestión de Bullrich, la reforma laboral consiguió dictamen en el Senado
Defense by the ruling party and opposition tension
The president of the La Libertad Avanza caucus in the Upper House, Patricia Bullrich, confirmed that the ruling party will move forward with the amended version. She expressed confidence regarding the vote scheduled for next week.
On her social media, Bullrich celebrated the parliamentary step: "We have the labor reform report and we will vote next week. I told you: we work with results to make Argentina great again".
During the plenary session there were strong objections from the Kirchnerist wing of Unión por la Patria, which denounced alleged irregularities in the call and questioned the impact of the regulation on labor rights. The same staging that Kirchnerism has accustomed us to.
Los senadores kirchneristas amenazan con judicializar la ley de modernización laboral
Some opposition senators referred to the 2001 crisis and even hinted at warnings about possible legal challenges to the legislative process.
Members of the ruling party rejected those accusations and defended the legality of the parliamentary procedure. They also argued that the reform seeks to update a labor framework that they consider out of step with new productive dynamics.
One step closer to approval
With the signed report, the bill already meets the regulatory requirement to be debated on the floor. If the Senate accepts the version coming from the Chamber of Deputies, the law will be approved.
The Government emphasizes in every presentation that the labor modernization aims to reduce litigation, provide greater predictability in hiring costs, and promote formal employment.
The changes include lower employer contributions for new hires, the creation of the Labor Assistance Fund, and tools such as a time bank and the splitting of vacation periods.
La Libertad Avanza keeps that the reform is part of a broader agenda of macroeconomic stabilization and fiscal discipline driven by President Javier Milei.
Una semana legislativa clave se define en el Senado de la Nación

With the report secured, the labor reform was formally set on track toward its final approval. On Friday, the Upper House will have the last word.
