Level-5 put an end to the rumors circulating around Decapolice's future, one of its most ambitious projects in recent years. The video game, originally announced in 2023 and later postponed until 2026, had caused concern among fans due to the lack of official information over a prolonged period.

The doubts were dispelled by Ken Motomura, the main person in charge of the project, who confirmed that development is continuing steadily and that the team is fully focused on solving new challenges related to the gameplay experience and narrative construction.

A long period of silence that fueled speculation

Since the end of 2023, the absence of news about Decapolice became striking. After the announcement of the delay in September 2024, Level-5 significantly reduced its public communication, which led part of the community to interpret the silence as a sign of possible internal problems or even a cancellation.

The game had been introduced with an initial release planned for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4, but those plans didn't materialize. Finally, an update published in a specialized Japanese magazine made it possible to learn the studio's official stance. There, Motomura was categorical: "Development is progressing steadily."

New challenges in gameplay and narrative

According to the project director, the development team is currently facing "unique" challenges linked to both gameplay and narrative. Although he avoided providing specific details, he emphasized that these challenges are part of the process of creating a distinct experience within the genre.

Decapolice aims to combine deduction mechanics, puzzle solving, and turn-based combat in an anime-style detective adventure. The story revolves around Harvard, a young detective who investigates crimes in a city plagued by corruption and crime, with the particular ability to alternate between a physical reality and a virtual one.

This duality between real and digital worlds aims to enrich investigations and offer a deeper narrative approach, one of the aspects that explains the complexity of the development.

Level-5's communication strategy

It's not the first time Level-5 has faced difficulties in maintaining fluid communication during prolonged developments. In previous projects, delays and a lack of information also caused uncertainty in the community.

However, industry analysts point out that, unlike other cases, Decapolice was never removed from the studio's official sites, nor was its continuity denied. Motomura's recent statements reinforce the idea that the silence replied more to a strategic decision than to structural problems.

Moderate expectations looking ahead to 2026

With the confirmation that Decapolice is still moving forward, the studio's fans are regaining a certain optimism, although with caution. Level-5 assured that it will share more information when it considers the time to be right, with the goal of showcasing the game's potential in a solid way.

Looking ahead to 2026, Decapolice is emerging as a strong bet within the studio's catalog, with the expectation of offering a distinctive experience that will justify the long wait and the challenges undertaken during its development.
